I've done a few more drawings. A little tighter, but the tree is from yesterday, and I think there are some strong parts but quite a few weak ones. It's been nice to draw as the means to an end, though I'm still not sure how to go about paint. But I feel very much like i'm painting with this charcoal. I can get a variety of marks by using different pressure. And tones by thinking of and looking at the surface of things. It's like finding a way or a formula, but it's a good challenge with dense situations. But It's obvious I'm thinking about Van Gogh, David Hockney, even Pissarro. Whatever, you'll see.
